Health and safety

Workplace safety is everyone’s responsibility

We operate in one of the most dangerous industries in the UK, so we take our responsibility to protect our people very seriously.

Top-down

Our approach to health and safety is led from the top, with our company directors and senior management regularly reviewing performance and attending training and site meetings to ensure that it is embedded within our company ethos, ‘Workplace Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility’.

We make sure that any party representing Elkins, employee or partner, is fully prepared to carry out their tasks, receiving all the appropriate training and management. Risk assessments and adherence to our robust company policy, as well the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are fundamental to safe areas of work and to keeping accidents to a minimum.

Zero tolerance

Elkins has an in-house health and safety consortium made up of staff across different areas of the business, who meet regularly to monitor operations and ensure we conform to all relevant legislative requirements and demonstrate commitment to our safety culture through recognised industry best practice. Members of the consortium are rotated every few months to ensure a wide range of views and inputs from different departments.

All Elkins’ employees work collaboratively with a zero-tolerance approach to managing safety, and we maintain regular open two-way communication across all areas of the business to provide health and safety information, as well as guidance and support to our operational workforce so it can identify, reduce and eliminate hazards or risk. We continually monitor and report on our health and safety performance to recognise and share in our successes or identify areas for continuous improvement.
