The Elkins Construction team carried out many fantastic community initiatives last year, offering their time and services to provide improvement works for various local charity and TRA buildings. They even managed to squeeze in one final job at Alvey Estate, turning it around in record time, so it was completed before Christmas!
In October, the TRA applied for Southwark Council’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding to improve its hall facilities, including tables, chairs and space heater. When our Social Value Manager, Ayesha, met with Alvey Estate TRA’s representative, Leslie Tucker in late November to discuss how our site team could help carry out improvement works to the building we agreed to carry out improvement and refurbishment works in the main hall and kitchen to help prepare for the other items applied for.
The scope of the work included; decorating the walls, ceiling and woodwork in the main hall; stripping out and replacing the kitchen units, worktops, vinyl and sink; and creating an opening in the wall to form a service area.
Despite the close proximity of the initial discussions to Christmas, due to the diligence of our site team and sub-contractor, Eric Group, works were able to begin on 14th December and were completed before the Christmas shutdown period.
The hall serves an important purpose in the local community, offering a free space for TRA meetings and community events for residents. Leslie said: “We are really over the moon with the hall! We’re looking forward to hosting more open days over the winter months, where residents can come and enjoy a cup of tea and a board game together in the warmth of our hall.”
We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who worked so hard to get this job completed so quickly, including Elkins’ Assistant Contract Manager, Paul Constable, Paul Lewis and Rose-Marie Powell from the Alvey Estate site team, and Eric Group, who kindly provided their services at a discounted rate, due to it being for the benefit of the community.
